The first film we made was wrong, and it took a while to name why. The content was right. What was missing was that nobody had been anywhere: no accident of light, no camera that flinches, no sense that a person stood in a place and decided it was worth pointing at.
Footage feels lived-in because someone lived it.
Generated video has no lived-in eye. That is a problem of provenance, not resolution — the models are good and getting better, and it will not help. Footage feels lived-in because someone lived it. So the fix is not a better prompt. It is to put real material back at the centre and let generation work outward from it.
three layers, in order of authority
- Real footage as the spine. Jordan's own filmed travel material anchors every piece: real movement, real light, real place. Generated video extends it rather than replacing it — continuations, camera moves a person could not have made, worlds opened past the edge of the frame.
- Style transformation as grammar. The world renders first as black-and-white painterly outline. Colour bleeds in. It snaps to real footage, then lifts into 3D. Those state changes are the edit, not a filter laid over the top of one.
- 3D assets composited in, rendered through the studio console and TRELLIS. The rendering workflow stops being a product tool and starts being a way of making pictures.
what it's actually for
The end of this is not a house style for adverts. Once the grammar holds it goes across every venture, and the motion language starts to resemble Jordan's own handwriting and drawing — the sketches moving, the letterforms behaving like themselves. A studio whose work is hand-made should look hand-made when it moves.
The next move is small, and cheap enough to do badly: one travel clip already shot, one Seedance extension generated from its final frame, one sketch-outline pass, the three states cut together. An hour of work. If the grammar is real it will be obvious in the first ten seconds. If it is not, that is worth knowing before anything gets built on top of it.
